I have four ends and I send a couple of them to work one on one with the Defensive Backs. I will rotate them around. Two will work on the Inside Drill and two work on the one on one drills. Next we go to our Team Passing Drills. This is our 1's against 1's. We do this two days per week during the season. We go for eight plays. The defense can do whatever they want. This is an all-pass drill. It is one Page 6 of the best things we do. The offensive and defensive lines come off the ball and work on their skills.

So, I was 24 years of age at the time. My head coach hired Darrell Mudra. He had been a head coach at Florida State, and Arizona. He had won a National Championship at North Dakota State. He also won a National Championship at Eastern Illinois. He was an unbelievable person to work for. He totally let you do your own thing. He made a deal to come to Northern Iowa and keep the same staff. He came up to me and this is what he said. " I did some research on Mudra. '' It was incredible. It was about the democratic philosophy to coaching.

In other words we want rules we can enforce. That is the deal. If you say it, follow up on it. Drinking is always a big deal, even at the college level. If you are mature enough to drink you will have to decide that. You are responsible for your actions. On Thursday, if you think anything of this football team, you better not be out drinking. On Friday night we are traveling together and that is not an issue on that night. Again the bottom line is to have rules you can enforce. This kind of goes back to my days at the Citadel when I coached down there.
