Another area where there has been a marked increase in research in recent years is in the study of pathologies of attention caused by lesions of the brain. The chapter by Jon Driver focuses on the fascinating syndrome called "hemineglect". Usually caused by damage to the parietal lobes, neglect appears to reflect a selective difficulty in orienting perceptual attention to one half of space.
